"It's that deep underground sh*t... you should know the way it sounds like..." This set premiered on DeepGroove Radio on March 7. It's a mix of mostly older deep and minimal housey tracks. About 1/2 of the way through we pick up the energy a bit... Perfect for the late night dancers to find their groove... as always a few gems and surprises along the way. Enjoy Mixed and programmed by Roland Gonzales Episode 31 - Back To Mine - 19FEB10
February 18, 2010 11:08 PM PST
Alright podcast fam... gonna switch it up here. This set is my take on the mix CD series, Back To Mine, which started in '99 and continued through the '00s. The concept is simple - get a big name DJ or electronic group to compile a bunch of tracks that they might play for you if you went back to their place to chill out after a good night on the dance-floor. You'll find the first couple tracks transition out of the club and into the living room... from there it's lounge all the way... there's a bit of everything on here with an underlying Valentine's theme... hope you like it!! 01 Manolo - Lose Myself
Upcoming Events:
I want to send a big shout out to all the peeps that I got to meet and hang out with on my recent trip... too many to mention but y'all know who you are!! And extra special thanks to the Kwon fam for the incredible hospitality and also hookin me up with a few tracks on this mix!! Alright... there you have it, another installment in the can. Don't forget to send me your feedback and keep spreadin the word. If you haven't already done so, please show your support by joining the FB group http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=118357833555 Back in March with some newness to get your booties shakin. Mixed and programmed by Roland Gonzales. Episode 30 - The Sound V.2 - 25JAN10
January 26, 2010 08:06 AM PST
Alright peeps... back to bizness this week with The Sound V.2. This is the sequel to Episode 5 and represents the deeper side of the tech/house spectrum. Inspired by producers/dj's that had a big influence on me in the late 90's and early 00's - TLBJ, Timewriter, Terry Francis, Eddie Richards, and Steve Bug 01 Frenchie - Fait Accompli - John Daly Remix
As always, we ease into the set with some mellower sounds... at track 4 we start to turn up the heat - Where Are You Now - guaranteed goosebumps. Toronto's No. 19 Music is on here with a couple joints, Cosmic Log and Osunlade's remix of NITIN's Silent Scales. Luvin the bounce in the Afro-tech track Bolingo Gringo, and also really feelin the Detroit-style makeover on Logic's The Warning (which is my sentimental fav house track of all-time). And finally, we close it out with a lost track from 1999 which at 10+ years old, still stands up quite well to the newer stuff. Upcoming Events: February 12- THE SNO-MEN + KERRI CHANDLER @ Courthouse - Boogie Inc
Don't forget to join the FB group to stay up to date - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=118357833555 I'll be back later this month with another throwback set... thanks again for your ongoing support and feedback. Mixed and programmed by Roland Gonzales Episode 29 - Fun Dip V.3 - 19JAN10

January 05, 2010 07:32 PM PST
Welcome 2010!!! Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season. I wanted to start the year off with something on the mellow tip since most of you probably heard lots of bumpin beats over the last couple weeks. This mix is one of those slow-burners so hopefully you catch the vibe and get swept away on the 'musical journey'. Ya, I know... everyone claims that... let me know what you think. You'll find some remixes from a few of my all-time favourite artists on here.... and I promise you'll get rewarded at the end with one of the best and least heard tracks of last year! Enjoy... 01 Sade - Soldier of Love (Casamena Basement Edit)
For the record this was not meant to be a dancefloor friendly mix. Probably best listened to on headphones. I purposely started out at 112 bpm and built it to 124 to close it out... felt like droppin some smoother grooves to start. And yes, I need a new mixer... Francis!!! Good lookin out to Andy Roberts and Mixed Signals Music (http://mixedsignals.ca) for puttin out quality tunes from the Tdot and also Stephen Rigmaiden and soso deep (http://www.myspace.com/sosodeepsoul)... I'm feelin those beats!! Upcoming parties to check out: January 20 - Helping Haiti @ Footwork - show your support!

December 27, 2009 11:56 AM PST
.
This mix was created especially for the DJ portal, http://1200Dreams.com. For the holiday season, they had decided to release a series of dj sets showcasing various genres in the dance music spectrum and asked me to put together a tech-house set. Hope you enjoy!! 01 Kerri Chandler – Get It Off (DJ Deep Edit)
As my closest friends can attest, 2009 has been a special year for me as it marked my return to the decks after a long hiatus. Inspired and refreshed, I jumped back into the game full-on and created this podcast which ran weekly from April to September and eventually settled into a less hectic bi-weekly format. Whether you tuned in on the regular or waited for a specific genre to be featured on Recession Sessions, I want to thank each and every one of you for your support. Ultimately, your positive feedback has helped me rekindle this passion. I look forward to 2010 and building on the foundation of this past year. Expect to get a regular dose of the latest house and tech flavours and also explore the roots of today's current underground music. Much respect to both Inti at http://1200Dreams.com and Martin at http://deepGrooveradio.com for getting my music some international exposure. Good lookin out guys! Upcoming parties to check out: NYE - ring in the new year at Rivoli with Garage 416 vs Bump N' Hustle vs milk.
Wishing everyone a new year filled with joy, laughter, love, good food and of course MUSIC. Where would we be without it!? Roland Episode 26 - Next - 24NOV09
November 24, 2009 06:22 PM PST
Sup y'all! First off... this mix is dedicated to the podcast fam. You guys keep me inspired with your feedback including the odd text to say you burnt your dinner because you couldn't stop dancing!? LOL. With the year CREEPing to a close and the cold weather here for the next few months, I wanted to drop a deep and fun mix for you to warm up to. As well, it should be a good primer for next week's launch of http://www.underonehouse.com with an all-star lineup of Dennis Ferrer, Jojo, and Osunlade! Starting off with some recycled funk and heading into the deep end before moving on to a string of dancefloor killers... I tossed in a couple lost classics and finish off with what could very well be remix of the year. This one is HOT! Enjoy!! 01 Nick Holder - Fruit Loops (Disco '79)
There are too many great tracks to single any one out individually... with a nice balance of old and new. If you happen to hear one of your faves on here, I probably had you in mind. Some shoutouts to carlovega http://carlovega.podomatic.com, the one and only Paul E Lopes, Nick Holder who's got a couple tracks on this mix, and Martin at http://deepGrooveradio.com for broadcasting my last mix on his show. Upcoming parties to check out: November 27 - Master Kev @ Cobra presented by G416, Boogie, milk.
Looking forward to seeing you on the dancefloor. As always, thanks for tuning in to your favourite podcast and please don't forget to send me feedback. Podcast SummaryAlternating sets with two distinct formats: Show 1 - the latest in house, deep-house, and tech Show 2 - Recession Sessions - various electronica, funk/soul/disco, older house and tech, hip hop and everything in between Spread the word! About Roland GonzalesHaving grown up surrounded by music from an early age, Roland began to collect records as diverse as 80's new wave, hip hop, disco, ska and reggae. He was introduced to the sounds of house music in the late 80's which led to many late-night adventures in Toronto's budding warehouse scene. This is when he became exposed to the freshest house tracks played by pioneers Dino & Terry, Peter & Tyrone, JMK as well as Paul E Lopes and Jason Palma with their Funk/Latin/Soul sounds. From that developed a fascination with DJ Culture along with a love of the early 90's works of Todd Terry, MAW, Lil Louis, Pal Joey, Murk, and labels such as Strictly Rhythm. Throughout the mid-90's, hip hop battle DJ's including Q-Bert, Roc Raider, Toronto's Turnstylez and Producer/DJ Serious made an important impression on Roland with respect to approaching music with a spontaneous and creative attitude. This is when he first began honing his skills as a DJ and upstart producer. In 1997, Roland was reintroduced to the house and party scene and made the transition to house DJ. He was hooked by the incredible energy of the dancefloor and the inspiring sets from DJ's as varied as Sneak, Derrick Carter, Derrick May, Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Andy Weatherall, Mark Farina, Stacey Pullen, and many T-Dot locals including Mario J and Kenny Glasgow. Over the past 12 years, Roland has touched on the whole spectrum of 'house' music and developed his own unique and versatile style which is firmly planted in between the realms of house and techno. His passion for dancing is reflected during his energetic sets where funky and upbeat tracks always get the crowd grooving and screaming for more. In the past, Roland has rocked dancefloors at a number of clubs and lounges across the city including Eclipse, Mint, Alto Basso, Una Mas, Hotel, Kubo, a weekly residency at Aero, as well as various warehouse parties.
