Sup y'all! First off... this mix is dedicated to the podcast fam. You guys keep me inspired with your feedback including the odd text to say you burnt your dinner because you couldn't stop dancing!? LOL. With the year CREEPing to a close and the cold weather here for the next few months, I wanted to drop a deep and fun mix for you to warm up to. As well, it should be a good primer for next week's launch of http://www.underonehouse.com with an all-star lineup of Dennis Ferrer, Jojo, and Osunlade! Starting off with some recycled funk and heading into the deep end before moving on to a string of dancefloor killers... I tossed in a couple lost classics and finish off with what could very well be remix of the year. This one is HOT! Enjoy!! 01 Nick Holder - Fruit Loops (Disco '79)
There are too many great tracks to single any one out individually... with a nice balance of old and new. If you happen to hear one of your faves on here, I probably had you in mind. Some shoutouts to carlovega http://carlovega.podomatic.com, the one and only Paul E Lopes, Nick Holder who's got a couple tracks on this mix, and Martin at http://deepGrooveradio.com for broadcasting my last mix on his show. Upcoming parties to check out: November 27 - Master Kev @ Cobra presented by G416, Boogie, milk.
Looking forward to seeing you on the dancefloor. As always, thanks for tuning in to your favourite podcast and please don't forget to send me feedback. Join my FB group - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=118357833555 and follow me on twitter - http://twitter.com/rolandgonzales. Back next month with one last Recession Sessions to close out 2009. Peace and respect. Mixed and programmed by Roland Gonzales Episode 25 - Lost In Transition - 13NOV09
November 13, 2009 09:25 AM PST
Sup Podcast Fam! Back from a brief hiatus with some freshly squeezed underground bizness. Starting off on the lush house tip and progressing into deeper and darker territory. This one will do well on your headphones... enjoy! 01 Jay 'Sinister' Sealee & Louie Vega starring Julie McKnight - Bittersweet Part 1 (Jay's Main Event)
For this one I packed in more tracks than normal. Some standout cuts for me are the Atjazz dubs, Alex Niggemann's reboot on Logic's The Warning, Terry Hunter's spaced out booty track, TO's Kenny Glasgow with the minimal but driving Logan's Run remix and also really feelin that G Family track off Tonality. Good lookin out to urbansteve (http://morehotsauce.wordpress.com) for the hookup on a couple of these joints. Events to check out: Friday Nov 13 - Danny Krivit @ Cobra presented by boogie, G416 and milk.
Thanks for your continued luv and support. Feedback is always appreciated. Mixed and programmed by Roland Gonzales Episode 24 - Recession Sessions - Hip Hop Edition V.2 - 18OCT09

Suuuup peeps! This week I'm back with some of that boom bap... original rap... gettin nostalgic and dippin into the golden era here... this one's dedicated to the boys and also my Flemo and Scaborough fam.... 01 Pete Rock - Beat Four
Lots of classics on here... anyone remember the infamous battle on KMEL's Sway & Tech show between Hiero and Hobo junction... I remember gettin a copy of the tape and listening intently to check out the ensuing madness... LONS always rocked some of the best posse cuts back then with ATCQ and on this one with Rumpletilskinz... we got BCC for a couple cuts on this one... also one of my favourite TDot tracks of all time, Sauks and Marvel - Hate Runs Deep. Can't forget the Milkbone instrumental with the dope piano riff which matches up well with QB's Hav and Prodigy's Survival remix. Hope you enjoy the trip down memory lane! Shout out to my boy Steve out in the Chi for hookin me up with my podcast graphics... got some of your joints on here bro... and good lookin out to the crew - this reminds me of parking lots in the hood and beats at the old crib...lol Events to check this weekend: Oct 23 - THE WAREHOUSE PARTY - Junior Palmer and United Soul
As always peace to the entire Podcast fam... I'll be taking a couple weeks off to recharge and will be back some time in November with more underground flavour.... thanks for listening and spreading the word!!! Don't forget to hit me up with your feedback and comments. Mixed and programmed by Roland Gonzales Episode 23 - Afterhours v.1 - 13OCT09
October 13, 2009 07:59 PM PDT
Back this week with a bumpin house mix hot off the decks... give me a dark room, 2 turntables, a mixer and one strobe light in the corner and this is what you'll get - upbeat, funky, soulful, dirty and deep - enjoy!! 01 Aya - Afterhours
Lots of delicious tracks this week... Starting things off with the gorgeous acapella of everyone's fave Blue Six track - Sweeter Love... the powerful Margaret Grace vocal on And God Created Woman... a replay of the Moodymanc track which samples Denzel Washington... the dirty bassline and catchy vocal of Omar S's Set Me up... as always Toronto is reppin with Mixed Signals Music's future classic Jovonn's Deep End... Jimpster's dubby Bob Marley remix (thanks urbansteve)... and also Fred Everything's take on the timeless anthem Follow Me <-- I think they did it justice - this one will be huge! and ending it off with a little cosmic disco slop for my girl jo. Respect to Boogie for holdin it down in the Tdot at http://www.myspace.com/boogie.inc. Good lookin out to Miss Ruckus and urbansteve at http://morehotsauce.wordpress.com for spreadin the musical word... Big ups to the wee-one who helped me get the hard-drive back on-line.... and a massive shout out to the crew... you know this one's for you. We always had that appreciation for the 'classics' which has kept us well-rounded in our musical tastes. And a big thanks to all the peeps that continue to support and show love for this podcast. Your feedback and comments keep me inspired. Much Love. Back next week with something... lol... we'll see. Mixed and programmed by Roland Gonzales Episode 21 - TECH-ual Healing - 30SEP09
September 30, 2009 08:48 PM PDT
First off, I want to thank the Podcast Fam for all the luv, feedback, and support. Can you believe we're on Episode 21? WOW!!! I started this podcast in May and here we are entering the 5th month. Mixes like 'Rejuvenate' and 'The Sound' seem as if they were years ago... On this one I wanted to create that big room vibe... my version of what you SHOULD hear on a great system... peak hour... deep bumpin tech-house with an underlying sensuality... hot sweaty bodies... lost in the moment. Got the signature buildup in momentum and ends off with some groovier tracks to let you mellow out before getting on with your day/evening. Keep your ears open for the one mix which ties into the title of this set. I deliberately left the song off the tracklist. 01 Blake Baxter, Marc Romboy - Where Would You Be (2009)
Lots of gems on this one - the opening song basically summarizes what this podcast has evolved into. I'm especially feelin the Butch dub of Luomo's Tessio along with another banger from my boys, Subfractal. Check the heat on the Habanero track... sick. And also the trippiness of the set closer from Scope. Good lookin out to urbansteve (http://morehotsauce.wordpress.com) for always keeping me in the loop on some tasty beats. Also, want to shout out http://www.1200dreams.com and Martin at http://deepgrooveradio.com. Lots to do this weekend. Get your house fix at Cobra this Friday with Osunlade and the G416/milk. boys. If you're into soul... pop into Revival on Saturday for Lee Fields - should be dope! And don't forget to check out some local artists at Nuit Blanche! Much respect again to the Fam... back soon with the next installment of Recession Sessions. Mixed and programmed by Roland Gonzales Episode 20 - Recession Sessions - Flirt - 01SEP03
September 25, 2009 02:25 PM PDT
Been receiving numerous requests from the Podcast Fam to get back into action with the next installment... Unfortunately, life's been incredibly busy of late, not to mention I'm still in the process of recovering from the busted hard-drive. In the meantime, here's something to tide you over. This is a re-post of a set I put together back in 2002. Originally planned as a demo to give to the Flirt crew, the mix took on a life of its own with some of my closest friends (you know who you are!). The set starts off with the incredible Swag mix of New World and progresses into the tripped out but funky Impossible Beings track. For me, 2002 was a year spent hunting for moody, lush, and atmospheric tracks... some of which you'll find on here. 01 Attaboy - New World (Swag's New Day Mix) (2002)
For the question marks above... I just didn't have the patience today to keep listening to vinyl in order to get all the track ID's. Sorry!? As always... Toronto is reppin nicely with a dirty tribal number from Kenny G and Matt C off Family recordings. Promise to be back next week with something new... so until then... listen up and enjoy!! **Osunlade at Cobra Oct 2... Toronto's best sound system. milk. See u there. And also, non-music related... lookin forward to exploring Toronto's local art scene after hours at Nuit Blanch this year. Get out and support your hometown! Thanks for the continued inspiration and much respect to all the listeners out there lookin to get their weekly fix of underground music. RIP Roc Raida... RIP Devso... September 10, 2009 09:28 PM PDT
Originally planned to drop Fun Dip v.2 this week but due to technical difficulties I didn't have access to certain tracks and was forced to do a house set. As it turns out I'm pretty happy with the 'compromise'... lol. With that said, I present a collection of throwback vocal house tracks, which as most of you know by now, I rarely ever do. This is a concept mix centered around that one singular theme that drives us all in some shape or form. The set starts off at the end of a shite relationship and all the different emotions that follow the 'breakup' from both male & female perspective and progresses through to finding that new fling and all the fresh feelings that are inspired by that new love. 01 Ultra Nate - It's Over Now (1989)
Dug through the archives to pull out some dusty tracks for your listening and dancing pleasure.... Enjoy!! So I have to say.... DENNIS mutha f-in FERRER. Cobra. milk. G416. Boogie. September 11. Done. See you there. And if the weather cooperates, I'm hopin the Bump n Hustle crew pull out another patio Sunday at Ultra... Good lookin out to my man Paul E Lopes... Christos - you know your sh*t bro. and a BIG shoutout to my girl lala... you know which track is for you!!! Expecting a dinner out of this one... LOL Peace out... and as always thanks for tuning in to your favourite weekly podcast!!!!!!!! Mixed and programmed by Roland Gonzales Episode 18 - Evolve - 01SEP09
September 01, 2009 08:01 PM PDT
Felt kind of restless earlier in the week and needed some up-tempo ish to sooth the itch, so here it is... Peak-time TECH BIDNESS for the dancefloor to get your feet shufflin and the fist pumpin!! First track is a banger from 2001 that I used to go absolutely nuts over!! The rest is brand spankin '09 duttiness. 01 Shuffle Inc - Remember Chicago (Swag's Basement Dub)(2001)
A big TO shoutout to the Subfractal crew. Also got the legendary local, Kenny Glasgow, reppin with the eerie Logan's Run to close it out. Can't wait to get my paws on the Bearweasel remix... someone hook a brother up! Good lookin out to urbansteve and also my boy Martin at http://deepgrooveradio.com Really pumped about the return of one of my favourite DJ's - Dennis Ferrer - September 11th on the Cobra soundsystem no less. This could be one for the books. Shout out to the milk. boys, G416 and Boogie for makin it happen! http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=125971067757&ref=ts Also for the heads, check out Jamie Jones at Cobra on Sept 17. Should be dope!! And can someone please bring Jay Tripwire to Toronto? Anyone? Hello? lol Don't forget to join the Facebook group - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=118357833555 and follow me at http://twitter.com/rolandgonzales. First off, RIP to DJ AM. Straight up... the man was a true entertainer and could rock a party with the best of them.... For this installment of RS, I decided to show another side of my musical flavour and throw down a collection of hip hop joints... This is mostly older stuff and includes a few local TDot classics (IMO) - IRS, Frankenstein, Down To Erf - as well as a couple newish tracks to keep things fresh. 01 Talib Kweli - The Blast (2000)
Shout out to Asamov crew down in Jax, FL... and much RESPECT to all Toronto's local hip hop DJ's who've shaped my musical tastes over the years - Serious, Grouch & The Turnstyles crew, DJ X and the Powermove Show, Mastermind, Power & the Masterplan Show, Soundquest, DJ Starting From Scratch, 2 Swift Household, and can't forget Paul E Lopes and the Vibes N' Stuff Show... August 16, 2009 07:30 PM PDT
So I started working on a new deep house mix this afternoon and got completely sidetracked and decided to flip through the archives. Inspired by the amazing weather in Toronto over the past week and also a recent bumpin Derrick Carter set (thanks Claus), I decided to throw down this trip through memory lane. The next 80 minutes will transport you back to the 97-02 era with a mix of San Fran house and disco-house... Totally rediscovered a number of lost gems including the Mocca Latte track (check when the bassline drops in at 38 min!!), the Mark Bell stuff, the brilliant Ian Pooley track 'Before Long' and Loleatta Holloway's 'Dreamin'... last time I heard 'Dreamin' Karizma was flippin the acapella over some jackin track at WMC in March. Anyways... check it out and hopefully this gets the head boppin, the feet movin and the body groovin... ENJOY! 01 DJ Sneak - Smokey Hill Street
Will be back this Friday with a new mix of freshly squeezed deep house... stay tuned!!! Big shout out to my man Martin at http://deepgrooveradioshow.co.cc show for spinning the latest in house vibes AND for hooking up last week's guestmix which will officially air on http://54house.fm this Sunday, August 23rd at 4pm EST. Podcast SummaryAlternating sets with two distinct formats: Show 1 - the latest in house, deep-house, and tech Show 2 - Recession Sessions - various electronica, funk/soul/disco, older house and tech, hip hop and everything in between Spread the word! About RolandHaving grown up surrounded by music from an early age, Roland began to collect records as diverse as 80's new wave, hip hop, disco, ska and reggae. He was introduced to the sounds of house music in the late 80's which led to many late-night adventures in Toronto's budding warehouse scene. This is when he became exposed to the freshest house tracks played by pioneers Dino & Terry, Peter & Tyrone, JMK as well as Paul E Lopes and Jason Palma with their Funk/Latin/Soul sounds. From that developed a fascination with DJ Culture along with a love of the early 90's works of Todd Terry, MAW, Lil Louis, Pal Joey, Murk, and labels such as Strictly Rhythm. Throughout the mid-90's, hip hop battle DJ's including Q-Bert, Roc Raider, Toronto's Turnstylez and Producer/DJ Serious made an important impression on Roland with respect to approaching music with a spontaneous and creative attitude. This is when he first began honing his skills as a DJ and upstart producer. In 1997, Roland was reintroduced to the house and party scene and made the transition to house DJ. He was hooked by the incredible energy of the dancefloor and the inspiring sets from DJ's as varied as Sneak, Derrick Carter, Derrick May, Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Andy Weatherall, Mark Farina, Stacey Pullen, and many T-Dot locals including Mario J and Kenny Glasgow. Over the past 12 years, Roland has touched on the whole spectrum of 'house' music and developed his own unique and versatile style which is firmly planted in between the realms of house and techno. His passion for dancing is reflected during his energetic sets where funky and upbeat tracks always get the crowd grooving and screaming for more. In the past, Roland has rocked dancefloors at a number of clubs and lounges across the city including Eclipse, Mint, Alto Basso, Una Mas, Hotel, Kubo, a weekly residency at Aero, as well as various warehouse parties.
